How we look after your information

BARE holds some of the most personal details of your wedding. This page explains what we keep, why, who helps us keep it, and the choices you have. Last updated 27 October 2026.

Who we are

BARE Events (bare-events.com) is run by Joanne McGregor, a sole trader trading as BARE Events. As the data controller, we are responsible for the personal information described here. If you have any question about it, get in touch.

What we collect

Your account

Your email address and a password. Passwords are handled by Google Firebase Authentication: we never see or store your password ourselves.

Your wedding plan

Everything you choose to add, which can include:

  • your names, wedding date, venue, budget and payments
  • suppliers and their contact details, quotes and notes
  • your guests’ names, households, contact details, RSVPs, meal choices, dietary requirements and accessibility needs
  • photographs you upload and Pinterest boards you link

Dietary requirements and accessibility needs can reveal health information, which the law treats as especially sensitive. We only hold it so you can plan your wedding: it is shown to you and anyone you invite to your plan, and appears in the PDFs you choose to download. We never use it for anything else.

When you contact us or give feedback

Your name, email address and message, so we can reply, and any feedback you choose to send from inside BARE.

If you join the BARE Professionals early access list

Your name, email address, business name and type, and anything else you choose to tell us, such as your website, roughly how many weddings you manage and what you’d like help with. We use it to contact you about BARE Professionals and early testing. We only send you news if you tick the box asking for it. Joining the list doesn’t create an account, and you can ask us to remove your details at any time.

If a venue introduced you

If you signed up through a link from your venue, we note which venue it was, so we can fill in its details for you and understand how the venue trial is going. We don’t share your plan with the venue: you decide what to send them.

Your wedding website

If you publish your wedding website, the details you choose to put on it can be seen by anyone with its link. Your guest list is never shown on it. When guests reply online, they find their own invitation with their name or RSVP code, and we pass their replies, meal choices, dietary requirements and accessibility notes to you.

Technical information

Like any website, our servers see your IP address and basic details about your browser when you visit. We use these only to keep the service secure, for example to stop too many sign-in attempts from one place, and they are kept in short-lived security logs.

Your guests’ information

When you add guests, you are sharing their details with us so we can store them for you. Please only add what you need to plan the day, and let guests know you’re using BARE if they ask. Guests can contact us directly about their information at any time.

Why we use it

  • To provide BARE. Storing your plan, keeping it in step across your devices and, when you invite them, with your partner.
  • To keep it secure. Checking sign-ins, preventing misuse and protecting against attacks.
  • To reply to you when you contact us.
  • To improve BARE from the feedback you choose to give us during the trial.

We don’t sell your information, show advertising, or use it to build marketing profiles.

Who helps us

We use a small number of trusted providers to run BARE. Each only handles your information to provide their service to us:

  • Cloudflare hosts our servers, your wedding plans and the photos you upload.
  • Google Firebase manages accounts and passwords, and sends account emails such as password resets.
  • Resend sends emails such as invitations to plan with your partner.
  • Pinterest shows boards you choose to link. When a board is shown, Pinterest receives your visit as it would on its own site.
  • Our web host serves the bare-events.com website.

Some of these providers may process information outside the UK. Where they do, they use the safeguards UK law requires, such as approved contract terms.

Cookies and storage on your device

We don’t use advertising or analytics cookies. To count visits we use Cloudflare Web Analytics, which sets no cookies, doesn’t follow you across other websites and only tells us totals, such as how many people viewed each page. Your browser keeps a copy of your plan and your sign-in so BARE works quickly and stays signed in. Signing out removes the copy of your plan from that browser. If you link a Pinterest board, Pinterest may set its own cookies when it is shown.

How long we keep it

We keep your wedding plan for 12 months after your wedding date, so you can look back on it, and then delete it. You can delete your account and everything in it sooner at any time from Wedding Settings, or ask us to do it for you.

We may need to keep certain business and financial records for longer where the law requires it. Messages you send us are kept for as long as we need them to help you. Security logs are kept for a short time and then deleted automatically. Our backups are replaced every few weeks, so deleted information also leaves them within eight weeks.

Your rights

Under UK data protection law you can ask us to:

  • give you a copy of your information (you can also download a backup of your plan from Wedding Settings at any time)
  • correct anything that’s wrong
  • delete your information (you can delete your whole account yourself from Wedding Settings)
  • restrict or object to how we use it
  • move your information to another service

To use any of these, contact us. If you’re unhappy with how we’ve handled your information, you can complain to the Information Commissioner’s Office at ico.org.uk, though we’d appreciate the chance to put it right first.

Keeping it safe

Plans are only available to you and the people you invite. Every request to our servers is checked against your sign-in, connections are encrypted, and we limit how often anyone can try to sign in or save. No system is perfect, and if something went wrong that affected your information, we would tell you.

Changes

If we change this policy in a way that matters, we’ll tell you in BARE or by email before it takes effect. The date at the top shows when it last changed.
